Formosan rock monkey

Formosan rock monkey, also called Hei Zhi He. Endemic species in Taiwan, precious wild animal, Old World Monkey. They are the only primates in Taiwan besides human beings. They have blood relationship with Macaca fuscata, mainland Monkey and Indian Rhesus Monkey.

Liquidambar formosana

We can extract resin from trunks of Liquidambar formosana to make sticks of incense and medicine; on the trunks, we can cultivate mushrooms. The wood is hard and solid to resist termites and it is good material for building and furniture; the leaves can be the food for saturniids and the dried and pressed falling leaves can be bookmarkers; dried fruit can serve as material for dried flowers. In spring and summer, the forest is covered by dense greenness and it can be street trees, garden trees or potting trees.

Macaranga tanarius

Macaranga tanarius, also called Liu Xie Tong, Mao Tong, Shan Tong Zi, Cheng Tong, Cheng Lan, Hung He Er, Da Yo tree and tent tree, etc. It is Macaranga tanarius of Euphorbiaceae. English name of Macaranga tanarius is Elephant's Ear and it is originated from the form of leaf of Macaranga tanarius which resembles ears of little elephants. When surface of the trunk of Macaranga tanarius is damaged, the sap leaked and the part around medulla become blood red after oxidation as blooding. It is thus named.

Helicia formosana Hemsl

It is called Helicia formosana Hemsl since the form of the fruit resembles the fruit of longan. The appearance is similar; however, Helicia formosana Hemsl is nut instead of drupe. There is no pulp in the peel and it is not eatable.

Lygodium japonicum (fern)

Real stem of Lygodium japonicum grows in the soil. The vine stretched from the soil is in fact the leaf. The rachis can grow infinitely and it can be crisscrossed largely. It has the nickname of the longest leaves in the world. Spores of Lygodium japonicum can be alexipyretic and diuretic and they can cure edema, cystolith, pulmonary tuberculosis, haematemesis, etc. Rachis is often employed to make little baskets or brushes.

Araucaria cunninghamii

It was originated in Australia. Evergreen megaphanecophyte. The trunk is straight and can reach 30m. The rings of branches are derived from main trunk and spread horizontally; little branches are arranged in 2 rows. They grow in alternation and spread horizontally. The branches at the end arrange intensively. Tree crown naturally becomes the form of cone tower. The leaves are fine, long, soft and fresh green. The form is little and the texture is solid. They are sharp and are not stabbed. Young leaves resemble thread and needle. They curve slightly and the front end is soft.
