Taipei City has been promoting the concept of animal-friendly environment and space through the Animal-Friendly Space Program since 2016, hoping that more private restaurants, amusement spots, public places, and transportation facilities will be accessible to pets. Through this program, it is coaching businesses to open their spaces to "welcome owners and pets together" and to post animal-friendly space stickers of “we love cats and dogs” at the entrance of their stores. In this way, they let owners know where to rest with their pets and to build a pet-friendly environment, and allow pets to truly integrate into the lives of owners and people in the areas of food, clothing, housing and transportation.
Dogs and cats enter the advanced age from 8 to 10 years old, and nearly 30% of dogs and cats over 11 years old have dementia. With the extension of pet lifespan, the issue of aging care has been paid more and more attention. The New Taipei City Animal Protection Office promotes a policy of long-term care for pets in response to the needs of pets in their old age. There are a total of 125 pet long-term care institutions in New Taipei City to help owners complete pet medical care in pets’ old age, improve their quality of life and protect the pets in their old age.
