Someone complained about the deposit for Neutering requested by an intermediary shelter in one online adoption club when sending a cat for adoption, and considered it as simply a trick to get money. Such an unimportant article has received lots of messages of both agreement and disagreement. A small statement about the reasonableness of the deposit has sparked such a big debate, and after looking deeper, we found that the dispute over money is never absent in the battle of private adoption! If I'm adopting a pet instead of buying one, why do I have to pay for it? There is a lot of money spent on medical care, care fees, grooming fees, and even forced donations. It is said that deposits can be returned, and fines of tens of thousands of dollars for violations are stated in the contract. These are probably questions that many adopters have had in their minds, and sometimes they can't help but wonder if I'm really adopting a pet from an intermediary shelter, or is this some kind of new scam? Attorney Hong-Yi Yan from the Legal Research Association for Animal Protection in Taiwan revealed that as of September 2020, there have been 30 to 40 disputes on private adoption. When people choose to adopt an animal from a private intermediary shelter rather than a public shelter, there is a real chance that they may encounter unscrupulous or even illegal people seeking for adopters. For example, a breeding facility can try to "sell" unsalable animals under the guise of giving them away and collecting donations, or some people may take advantage of people's love to collect donations to enrich themselves. Yu-Fang Hung said that in Taiwan, the number of 15-year-old children is decreasing by 4% every year, but the number of families with dogs and cats is increasing by 6%, and Tainan City is currently ranked second in Taiwan with more than 85,000 dogs and 61,000 cats, showing that Tainan City is a caring city, but with the incident of trapping animals as well.
