We mainly want to know what problems stray animals are facing. For example, animal protection groups stress the need for humanity and not killing, while residents demand quiet and complain about the dirty and messy environment. The views of the two parties are very different. We want to know more about the current situation and problems of animal-friendly groups and the management concept of school pets, so that these animals can be closer to people and their life so that the residents can coexist with them.
The network of the school is provided by the Ministry of Education, so speed and stability are good and problems are rare. Teachers can also provide a lot of assistance. In addition, the school also provides an online encyclopedia database and other resources.
(1).The data about Animal Home on the Internet is relatively scattered, which makes it difficult to sort out the data. However, we have obtained a lot of valuable information after visiting personally, listening to the doctors’ explanations, and visiting the temporary residence of the animals.
(2).At first, it was not easy to get good teamwork going, nor did we understand why our teacher had arranged these tasks for us to do. Later, after gradually completing the work, we learned that this was the concept of division of labor and cooperation. It was not enough to rely on one person alone.
(1) How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework, and curriculum standards?
Through practical actions, students can understand that animals, like human beings, are species living on the earth and are mutually beneficial and symbiotic in the face of the needs of the environment. Through arranging field visits and school advocacy activities, students can understand that animals can help humans perform many dangerous, repetitive, and therapeutic tasks and thus have a better understanding of caring for and respecting the lives of animals.
(2).What information tools & technologies did you use to complete your CyberFair project?
1. Used 3D printing to make card boxes and sent them to Animal Home as our gifts.。
2. Used digital camera to record our courses and observations by taking photos.
3. Used voice recorder to record the interviews.。
4. Used DV to shoot videos.
5. Used Word document editing software to organize documents and web page data.
6. Learned to use HTML markup language to write web pages.
7. Used Google and other relevant resources to quote and collect data.
8. Used Coggle to design our mind map.
(3) What skills did we learn?
1. Learned to write HTML markup language and make web pages.
2. Learned to use digital camera to learn how to take photos.
3. Learned how to ask questions in the interview design courses.
4. Learned how to answer questions in the interview practice.
5. Learned to use TinkerCAD system to draw 3D graphics and print the gifts (3D printing).
6. Learned how to discuss skills and draw mind maps.
(4) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
In early Taiwan, due to the lack of proper animal protection laws, people didn’t form concepts such as pet raising, animal slaughtering, or edible meat, resulting in many incidents of animal abuse, pet abandonment, and environmental problems caused by stray animals. Such news was not rare. However, the government’s legislation and efforts over the past few decades have gradually helped people form the concept of treating animals well, and the problems caused by animals have been slightly improved. As small as our strength is, we have done our best to make changes through school advocacy activities, by which to make the future generation pay more attention to this problem.
(5) How did we better understand certain specific concepts?
1. We should have the concept of caring for animals.
2. We should respect life and not abuse animals.
3. Animals also have lives.
4. Animals are good friends of human beings.
5. Being kind to animals is the future trend of the world.
(6) Intellectual Property Rights
We should respect the original authors and refuse to plagiarize. All data should not be overquoted. To collect and use the data, we should ask the consent of the relevant party.
(7) Discoveries, Lessons, and Surprises
Through this Cyberfair project, we learned that animals can help humans in many ways. The previous idea is only part of our cognition. Humans can keep pets to accompany themselves; they can also train animals to perform dangerous disaster relief work and train animals to perform the work of treating humans. These are things we didn’t know before.
(8)In what ways did you act as “ambassadors” and spokespersons for your Cyberfair project both on-line and in person.
Through cooperation with other schools, we use advocacy activities to introduce the arrangement of stray animals in combination with school curriculum. Through the exchange of experiences between the two schools, we have gained a better understanding of the concept of being kind to animals. After absorbing knowledge, students can also establish correct concepts.
